You probably won’t find Angle Finance by searching for it. Most business owners meet it when their equipment broker says, “I’ll put this one to Angle.” It is a non-bank asset financier that works only through accredited brokers, so its website speaks mostly to them. This profile translates that into what matters to you as the borrower, using Angle’s published information as at October 2026.

Angle describes itself as private equity owned and not aligned with a bank. When Westpac sold its motor vehicle dealer finance business in 2021, its announcement named Angle Finance as a portfolio company of Cerberus Capital Management, and that dealer business went on to trade as Angle Auto Finance. This page covers the business equipment side.

Which assets will Angle Finance fund?

The lender groups its lending around three kinds of primary asset, and says it will also look at secondary and tertiary equipment:

  • Motor vehicles. Commercial vehicles up to 4.5 tonnes, including sedans, utes and all-terrain vehicles.
  • Logistics. Trucks up to 12 tonnes gross vehicle mass, plus trailers and caravans used commercially.
  • Yellow goods. Wheeled or tracked machines such as excavators, backhoes, forklifts and mowers.

Its customer information also mentions transport, construction, materials handling and earthmoving equipment as the core focus. That makes it a natural fit for civil and earthmoving contractors, landscapers, couriers and small fleet operators. If you’re in that world, our pages on earthmoving contractors and truck finance go deeper on how lenders look at those businesses.

How the 20-year rule plays out

The age cap catches more people than you’d expect, particularly in earthmoving, where good used machines change hands for decades. Suppose a contractor wants a 2012 excavator for $85k in late 2026. The machine is already about 14 years old, so under Angle’s rule the term can run no more than six years. A 2008 machine would be limited to roughly two years, which pushes repayments up sharply. Before you fall in love with an older unit, check the term it allows and run the repayment through our equipment finance calculator.

What does Angle Finance charge?

Angle doesn’t publish rates, and we never quote them. It does publish a short fee list, which is more than many asset lenders offer:

  • Monthly account keeping fee: $4.95
  • Direct debit dishonour fee: $15 for each failed attempt
  • Early termination fee: $250, on top of the payout amount calculated under your contract

All three include GST. Your total cost will also depend on the interest built into the repayments, any balloon, and whatever your broker charges. Ask for the total amount payable in dollars, and compare it with at least one other quote using our loan cost comparison calculator.

Not sure whether your asset or your file is a good match for a lender like Angle? Run it past us for a candid view on where it’s likely to land; your credit file isn’t accessed when you ask.

Who is Angle a good match for?

It tends to suit:

  • Operating businesses buying work assets such as a tipper, a forklift, a skid steer or a fleet of utes
  • Owners keen to keep their cash, since Angle can fund the whole purchase price rather than requiring a deposit
  • Buyers working with a broker who already deals with non-bank asset lenders

It’s a weaker fit if you want to deal with a lender directly, if the asset is old or lacks a serial number (fit-outs, software and many smaller tools), or if what you really need is working capital rather than equipment. For those needs, compare unsecured business loans and a revolving business line of credit.

Questions worth putting to your broker

  1. Which structure is this: a chattel mortgage, a lease or something else? Our chattel mortgage vs finance lease comparison explains the tax and ownership differences.
  2. Is there a balloon, and what will it be in dollars at the end?
  3. What is the total payable over the term, including every fee?
  4. How much does the broker earn from this deal, and is there a fee to me?
  5. What happens if I sell or upgrade the asset halfway through?

What if Angle Finance declines?

A decline from one asset lender is often about the asset or the policy fit rather than your business. If the machine is too old, a lender with a looser age policy or a sale and leaseback on equipment you already own may work. If it’s credit or trading history, a specialist lender that assesses files individually is worth trying; see bad credit business loans. And if the amount is bigger than the equipment supports, property equity through Equity Tap can sometimes close the gap.

Other asset financiers we profile include Metro Finance, Dynamoney and Flexicommercial.

Buying a machine soon? Talk to a person before you commit

Equipment decisions tend to happen fast: a good used unit comes up, a contract starts next month, or something breaks. The finance should keep pace without locking you into the wrong structure.

Give us a minute on the form and we’ll take it from there. Your credit score isn’t touched by the enquiry, and we don’t hand your file around to every lender in town. Someone from our team goes through it personally, then picks up the phone. Precise details on the machine and your trading history mean we find the suitable lender sooner.
