How fast can I get a business loan? (readiness check)
Realistic timeline
–
Speed is never guaranteed; it depends on assessment, valuation and documents.
Quick answer
This funding speed calculator asks four things: whether you own property you could offer as security, whether six months of business bank statements are ready, whether your tax lodgements are up to date and how much you need. It returns a realistic timeline, the most likely type of lender, the single step that would speed things up and a readiness score out of 100. Timelines are possibilities, never promises.
Key points
- Security and loan size set the timeline; documents and tax lodgements set your readiness
- Missing bank statements cost the most points: 25 out of 100
- Unlodged BAS or returns slow every type of lender, even when money is owed
- Same-day funding is possible in some cases but depends on valuation, documents and signing
“How quickly can I have the money?” tends to come up before anything else. Truthfully, four factors decide it. This check walks through each one, tells you where you sit and names the single job worth doing today.
The four questions
- Do you own property you could use as security? Yes or no. Home, investment or commercial property all count.
- Are six months of business bank statements ready to send? Yes or not yet. Most non-bank lenders start here.
- Is your tax lodged up to date, even if money is owed? Yes or no. This is about lodgement, not payment.
- How much do you need? Under $50k, $50k to $250k, $250k to $1m, or over $1m.
What comes back
| Your answers | Realistic timeline | Most likely route |
|---|---|---|
| Property, under $250k | Same day possible for $20k to $250k | First mortgage, second mortgage or caveat loan |
| Property, $250k or more | 24 to 48 hours possible for larger amounts | Same property-secured options |
| No property, under $250k | Same-day funding possible for smaller unsecured amounts | Unsecured or cash flow loan from an online lender |
| No property, $250k or more | Several days to a few weeks | Usually needs security at this size |
Notice what’s missing from that table: your documents and tax position. They don’t move the timeline line. They drive the other two results instead.
What would speed it up. One action, in priority order. If bank statements aren’t ready, it tells you to download six months now. If they are but lodgements aren’t, it points to lodging outstanding BAS or returns. If both are done, it tells you you’re well prepared.
Readiness score. A score from 35 to 100:
| Factor | Yes | No | Points at stake |
|---|---|---|---|
| Property as security | 40 | 20 | 20 |
| Six months of statements ready | 30 | 5 | 25 |
| Tax lodgements up to date | 30 | 10 | 20 |
The biggest and easiest jump comes from statements rather than property: they you can usually download from internet banking in a few minutes. Many online lenders also accept a secure, read-only bank link instead of PDF files.
Example: a plumbing business needing a van and tools (illustrative)
A plumber in Adelaide needs $65,000 to replace a written-off van and tools. They rent their home, haven’t downloaded statements yet and their BAS is lodged.
- Timeline: Same-day funding possible for smaller unsecured amounts
- Route: Unsecured or cash flow loan from an online lender
- Speed-up: Download 6 months of bank statements now
- Readiness: 20 + 5 + 30 = 55 / 100
Ten minutes in internet banking lifts the score to 80 / 100. For a vehicle, equipment finance secured by the van itself is also worth a look, and our business loan finder would point there first.

A ten-minute readiness checklist
Before you enquire anywhere, gather these. They answer most of what a lender asks in the first call:
- Bank statements: six months for every business account, including any second account used for tax or savings.
- ATO position: a current integrated client account summary and confirmation that BAS and returns are lodged.
- ID and entity details: driver licence, ABN, ACN if it’s a company, and trust deed if a trust is the borrower.
- The property, if relevant: address, rough value, current lender and balance owing.
- The purpose and the date: a supplier invoice, contract or settlement notice proves both the use of funds and the deadline in one document.
Having this ready won’t change the calculator’s timeline line, but it’s what turns “possible” into “likely” once a real application starts.
What slows property-secured loans down
Owning property opens the fastest larger loans, but a few steps can still add days:
- Valuation. A desktop valuation can come back quickly; a full inspection for a large or unusual property takes longer.
- Title and existing lender. Some first mortgagees must approve a second mortgage before it’s registered, whereas a caveat avoids that step, which is one reason caveat loans are often quicker.
- Signing. Every borrower and guarantor needs to sign, and some documents need witnessing or ID checks.
- Settlement. Funds are released at settlement, so cut-off times and public holidays matter.
Is speed worth paying for?
Faster money is often dearer money. Banks remain among the cheapest lenders when your business fits their criteria, and a bank that’s simply slow may still be the best answer if the deadline allows. If your bank has gone quiet, see what to do when the bank is taking too long. If the deadline is real and close, same-day business funding and fast business loans explain what’s realistic. The guide on the documents that speed up a business loan is a good checklist to work through tonight.
Got a deadline? Let’s look at it properly
A score is useful, but your deadline, your security and your paperwork are specific to you. Tell us how much, by when and what it’s for. The form takes about sixty seconds, your credit score isn’t affected by asking, and your details aren’t fired off to dozens of lenders. A specialist reviews it personally and rings you. Precise answers about security, paperwork and dates let us give you a timeline you can plan around.
Frequently asked questions
How is the readiness score calculated?
Property you could use as security adds 40 points (20 without), six months of bank statements ready adds 30 (5 if not), and up-to-date tax lodgements add 30 (10 if not). The score runs from 35 to 100. It measures preparation, not approval chances.
Can I really get a business loan the same day?
Sometimes. Smaller unsecured loans from online lenders, and some property-secured loans between $20k and $250k, can fund the same day when documents are ready and the deal is straightforward. Valuations, title searches, signing and settlement can all add time.
Why does lodging my tax matter if I already owe the ATO?
Lenders want to see the full picture. Unlodged BAS or tax returns hide the true size of any debt, so most lenders won't finalise a loan until lodgements are current. Owing money is often workable; not lodging usually isn't.
Why does a large unsecured amount take longer?
Above about $250k, lenders generally want security or full financials, which means more assessment, possibly a valuation and more people signing off. The calculator shows several days to a few weeks for larger amounts without property.
Does a bank take longer than a non-bank lender?
Often, yes, because banks assess more thoroughly and usually want full financials. The trade-off is that bank finance is frequently the cheapest money available, so if timing allows and you meet the criteria, it's worth pursuing.
