Quick answer
Same day business funding is realistic when the amount is modest, the file is complete by late morning and the security is simple: a smaller unsecured loan assessed from linked bank statements, or a caveat loan of roughly $20k to $250k against straightforward property. Money itself moves in near real time, so delays usually come from approval steps, signing and your own bank's transfer limits.
Key points
- Australia's New Payments Platform settles eligible payments in near real time, 24/7, so the transfer is rarely the bottleneck
- What slows same day funding is approval, identity checks, signing and the lender's own cut-off times
- Your bank's daily transfer limit can stop you paying a big creditor today even after the loan lands
- Smaller unsecured loans and simple caveat loans are the products most likely to fund the same day
- If the deadline is today, ask the lender to pay the creditor directly
Same day business funding exists, and it isn’t a marketing trick. But it works inside a narrow window: the right product, the right amount, a complete file and an early start. Miss one of those and “today” becomes “tomorrow” without anyone doing anything wrong.
The useful question isn’t whether same day funding is possible. It’s whether your situation sits inside that window, and what you can do in the next hour to put it there.
The money moves fast. Everything before it doesn’t
Here’s the part most owners don’t realise. The actual transfer of funds is no longer the slow step. Australia’s New Payments Platform, run with settlement through the Reserve Bank, lets eligible payments reach the recipient in near real time, 24 hours a day. The RBA’s 2020 review of fast payments noted the Osko service aims to move money between accounts in under a minute, and many banks now route ordinary pay-anyone transfers through the same rails.
So when same day funding fails, it’s almost always because of what happens before the payment button:
- Assessment. Someone, or an automated system, has to look at your bank statements, credit file and purpose.
- Verification. Identity checks for every director and guarantor, plus company and ABN checks.
- Documents. The offer has to be issued and signed. Electronic signing helps; a missing guarantor doesn’t.
- Security. For property-backed loans, title checks, a valuation (often a desktop one for speed) and lodging the caveat with the state land registry during its business hours.
- Cut-offs. Each lender has an internal time after which it won’t release funds that day.
The illustrative timeline on this page shows how tight a same day run is. Every step has to go right, in order, by early afternoon.
Which products can realistically fund today?
| Product | Same day realistic? | What makes the difference |
|---|---|---|
| Unused headroom on a credit line or overdraft you already hold | Yes, within minutes | Already approved, so there’s nothing to assess |
| Smaller unsecured fintech loan | Often | Bank statements link cleanly, turnover supports the amount, clean recent conduct |
| Caveat loan, roughly $20k to $250k | Often, for simple deals | Residential or standard commercial property, clear equity, a believable exit |
| Larger caveat or private loan | Sometimes next day | Valuation and legal work take longer as the amount grows |
| Second mortgage | Rarely | Usually needs first-lender consent and registration |
| Invoice finance (new facility) | Rarely | Set-up and debtor verification take days; fast once running |
| Equipment finance | Sometimes, for simple assets | Dealer invoice ready, standard asset, established business |
| Bank term loan | Rarely | Credit processes are built for thoroughness, not hours |

The snag at your own bank
Here’s a problem we see more often than you’d expect. The loan lands in your account at 2pm, and then you can’t send $90k to the supplier because your online banking caps business transfers at a far lower daily amount, or holds a large payment to a new payee for checks.
Two fixes, both worth arranging before the money arrives:
- Ask the lender to pay the creditor directly. Many lenders will pay the ATO, a supplier or a settlement agent straight from settlement, which removes your bank from the chain entirely.
- Raise your daily limit in advance. Call your bank in the morning and ask for a temporary increase to the business pay-anyone limit. Some banks need a token or call-back to approve it, which takes time you don’t want to lose at 4pm.
How do you become the file that funds today?
Speed is mostly preparation. The habits below are what put an application inside the window:
- State the deadline and the purpose in the first message. “Need $60k to the ATO by 4pm today for a DPN” gets triaged differently from “need some cash flow”.
- Keep the last half-year to full year of account statements on hand, or be set up to connect your account through the lender’s secure connection.
- Have photo ID for every director available, and make sure every guarantor can sign electronically the same morning.
- For property: the street address, the registered owners, today’s mortgage balance and lender, plus a rates notice from this year.
- Name the repayment source for short-term money, with a likely date.
- Get the full dollar figure you’ll repay in writing before signing. The loan cost comparison calculator helps if you have two offers.
The guide to documents that speed up a business loan has a fuller checklist, and our funding speed calculator estimates a realistic timeline for your amount and security.
If today matters, send your enquiry before late morning with the amount and deadline in it. Asking is free, and your credit report isn’t touched.
When same day isn’t realistic, and that’s fine
Sometimes the honest answer is tomorrow, or Thursday. That’s not a failure if you plan for it.
- Tell the creditor now. A supplier who hears at 10am that payment is coming tomorrow morning behaves nothing like one left in silence until closing time.
- Request a brief extension, and get it confirmed by email. A settlement agent or landlord may agree to a day or two, sometimes at a cost.
- Don’t spray applications. Applying to four lenders in the hope one funds today usually means none does, and you collect four enquiries. See urgent business loans for how to rank your options.
If your deadline falls on a Friday afternoon or a public holiday, our page on weekend and after-hours business funding covers what still works.
A quick example
An illustrative café owner needs $35k by 3pm to pay a commercial kitchen supplier who has threatened to cancel an installation. Four years of trading sit behind the business, with reliable card takings. They enquire at 8:45am, link their bank account through the lender’s portal, and attach their licence. An offer arrives before 11am showing the total repayable in dollars over six months. The owner signs electronically, and the lender pays the supplier directly at 1:30pm.
The same owner, starting at 2:30pm with statements that wouldn’t link, would most likely have been paid out the following morning. The product didn’t change. The clock and the file did.
Ready to see what’s possible today?
Same day funding rewards owners who move early and give the lender everything at once. If you’re reading this in the morning, there’s still time.
Tell us how much, by when, and what it’s for. Sixty seconds covers the form, and submitting it triggers no credit enquiry. Your file stays with us instead of travelling from lender to lender; a specialist reads it personally and phones you, ideally while there’s still daylight to act on it. Please be exact about the amount and the deadline, because that’s what decides whether today is achievable.

Frequently asked questions
Can I really get a business loan funded the same day?
Yes, in the right circumstances. Smaller unsecured loans with clean, linked bank statements, and straightforward caveat loans against property, can be approved and paid out within one business day. Larger amounts, complex security or missing documents push it to the next day or later.
What's the latest time I can apply and still get funded today?
It varies by lender, and each sets its own cut-offs. As a practical rule, a complete enquiry by late morning gives the best chance. Applications that start mid-afternoon usually fund the next business day, even if approval comes quickly.
Does the money arrive instantly once the loan is approved?
Usually close to it. Many Australian banks now send payments through the New Payments Platform, which settles eligible transfers in near real time around the clock. Delays can still happen if either bank holds the payment for a security check or the receiving account can't take fast payments.
Why couldn't I pay my supplier after the loan arrived?
Often because of your own bank's daily transfer limit, which can be well below a large business payment. Ask your bank to raise the limit in advance, or ask the lender to pay the supplier, the ATO or the settlement agent directly.
Is same day funding available for large loans?
Occasionally for property-secured loans where the valuation, title and exit are simple, but larger amounts usually take a few days because of valuations, legal documents and registration. Plan for that if your need is over a few hundred thousand dollars.
