If you’re searching for GetCapital, you’ve found it under its newer name. The North Sydney lender rebranded as Shift in October 2021, partly because it had grown from a single business loan into a set of tools for paying suppliers, buying equipment and smoothing cash flow. That breadth is the main reason to look at Shift: instead of borrowing a lump sum and spending it across several needs, you can match each need to a facility designed for it.
The details below come from Shift’s own website as at October 2026.
What does Shift offer, need by need?
| If you need to… | Shift product | Published limit | How it’s repaid |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cover cash flow gaps on demand | Business Overdraft | $10k to $2m | Weekly or monthly; revolving for up to 5 years |
| Pay a supplier now and settle later | Trade Account | Up to $500k | One payment (examples at 14 or 30 days) or weekly over up to 20 weeks |
| Fit out premises or kit out the workshop | Equipment Line | Up to $2m, revolving | Monthly over 5 years |
| Buy a vehicle, machine or other asset | Asset Finance | Up to $2m | Monthly over up to 7 years, balloon available |
| Fund a capital project or expansion | Term Loan | Up to $2m | Weekly or monthly over up to 5 years |
Who qualifies?
Shift is pitched at established businesses. The published criteria for the term loan and asset finance are an Australian ABN, at least two years of trading and annual turnover of $250k or more. The equipment line also asks for two years in business. Every product goes through a standard credit assessment.
The paperwork scales with the amount. For a term loan under $500k, Shift asks for an application and six months of bank statements. At $500k and above, it adds financial statements and a snapshot from your ATO portal. Overdraft and equipment line limits under $500k are assessed from linked bank account data and can be approved within hours without paperwork; larger limits are assessed on financials.
If your BAS or tax returns are behind, that ATO snapshot will show it. Our page on loans when tax returns aren’t up to date explains what to do before you apply.
What makes each product different?
The overdraft links to your business transaction account. You move money across when you need it, and Shift says extra repayments or paying it out cost nothing. For how this differs from a revolving loan, see overdraft vs line of credit.
The trade account is closer to trade finance than a loan. You add the supplier by ABN or business name, upload their invoice, choose the date Shift pays them, then choose how to repay. To register, you need an active ABN, an Australian mobile, an Australian driver’s licence or passport and Australian business banking details, and all directors must register.
The equipment line is one revolving limit for purchases over $2,000 from any supplier, new or used, with no age restriction on the equipment. It covers technology and retail, office or industrial fit-outs. Shift publishes no establishment or annual fees on it, and fit-out purchases get a 120-day deferral before repayments start, which helps when a new space needs time to earn.
Asset finance covers cars, utes, vans, trucks, trailers and other business assets. Loans that aren’t backed by an asset go up to $250k; asset-backed loans reach $1m on a bank statement review or $2m with annual financials. There’s a $499 establishment fee, added to the loan, and the vendor is paid on the day you sign. A balloon payment trims each monthly instalment in exchange for a larger final amount owing.
The term loan can be used for any business purpose. Shift transfers the money on signing day, and it typically reaches your account one business day later.

Worked example: matching tools to needs
Picture a wholesale distributor turning over $1.8m a year, trading for six years. In one quarter it faces three things: a $90k container of stock from an overseas supplier, a $60k forklift and a fit-out of a new pick-and-pack area costing $45k.
A single $195k term loan would fund all of it, but the forklift and fit-out will earn for years while the stock sells within weeks. Split across Shift’s products, the stock could go on the trade account and be repaid over 12 weeks as it sells, the forklift on asset finance over five years, and the fit-out on the equipment line with repayments deferred 120 days. This is an illustration of the approach, not an offer, but the principle holds for any lender: match the repayment period to how long the purchase keeps earning. Our equipment finance calculator helps size the asset side.
Who is Shift less suited to?
- Businesses under two years old or turning over below $250k. Look at lenders with lower entry points, such as Lumi or Prospa, or see loans for low-turnover businesses.
- Businesses mainly owed money on invoices, where invoice finance releases cash tied up in receivables.
- Owners with credit problems, where case-by-case lenders are a better first stop: see bad credit business loans.
Questions worth asking Shift
- On the overdraft or equipment line, what fees apply to the unused limit, if any?
- For the trade account, what does it cost in dollars to choose weekly instalments over a single repayment?
- Is a director’s guarantee required, and on which products?
- If I hold more than one Shift facility, is security shared across them?

Not sure which facility fits your business?
Shift’s range rewards owners who know exactly which job each dollar is doing. If you’d rather have someone untangle that with you first, we do it every day.
Sixty seconds or so covers the form, and no credit check is run on you for filling it in. You won’t get calls from a string of lenders, because we don’t circulate enquiries; a specialist on our side reviews yours and phones you directly. Real turnover and trading figures, rather than hopeful ones, let us land on a workable facility straight away.
Frequently asked questions
Is Shift the same company as GetCapital?
Yes. GetCapital rebranded as Shift on 26 October 2021, and the old getcapital.com.au address now redirects to Shift. Shift said at the time that existing customers would see no change other than the name.
What are Shift's lending criteria?
For its term loan and asset finance, Shift asks for an Australian ABN, at least two years of trading and annual turnover of $250,000 or more, as at October 2026. Its equipment line also asks for two years in business. Standard credit assessment applies to all products.
How much can I borrow from Shift?
Shift publishes limits up to $2 million on its overdraft, term loan, asset finance and equipment line, and up to $500,000 on its trade account. Overdraft limits start at $10,000. The limit you're offered depends on your financial position.
What documents does Shift need for a term loan?
For loans under $500,000, an application and six months of bank statements. From $500,000 up, Shift also asks for financial statements and a snapshot of your ATO portal, so it pays to have your lodgements up to date.
How does the Shift trade account work?
You add a supplier, upload their invoice and pick the date Shift pays them. You then repay Shift in a single instalment on a chosen date or in weekly instalments over up to 20 weeks, within a limit of up to $500,000.
What if Shift says no?
If it's because you've traded under two years or turn over less than $250,000, look at lenders with lower entry points or at secured lending. If it's credit, a non-bank or private lender may assess the detail. We can help, with no credit check to enquire.
